Short Film Follows Winemakers Who Fertilise Vines With Bat Poo

I’m loving this series of 5-minute DIY films called PUNKOVINO, which take a look at the renegade wine producers who are shaking up the industry with their unusual methods in France, Germany, Italy and Spain.

They’re on the European arts and culture website ARTE.TV which carries a great selection of art and factual films on a wide array of subjects.

The first in the series is called Batman Poo, and it’s about a German couple, who call themselves 2NaturKinder, who are producing natural wine using vines fertilised by bat poo, thanks to the family of bats who live in an abandoned cabin in their vineyard. Bat-Nat, they call it, rather than Pet Nat. Sounds like the perfect drink for goths.

Whether or not it’s any more than a gimmick, I’ve no idea, but I’d love to give it a try.

It’s a great little film, enhanced by specially composed analogue synth music from the excellent Forever Pavot, who tastes the wine at the end, while noodling in his studio. “It has a Satanic side to it,” he says.

Anyway, here it is…

To watch the others in the series, visit the Arte.tv site.
