Let’s deal with the sad news first. As of Wed 31st January 2018, Brighton’s favourite Caribbean-style beach-hut cocktail bar, Cocktail Shack, is no more. We had some good times, Cocktail Shack. How we loved your corrugated iron roof and ridiculous film-themed cocktail puns. But in its place, at The Artist Residence boutique hotel on Regency Square, the team behind The Set restaurant have created a new cocktail bar called The Fix.
The Fix won’t only be about cocktails, it’ll also be serving a pared-back menu, using ingredients from the adjacent Set restaurant kitchen, which will minimise waste but also mean the menu will roll with the seasons.
But what you really want to know is what kind of cocktails they’ll be serving, right? Here are a few examples snatched from The Fix’s press release:
- Rhubarb Spritz: housemade rhubarb syrup with prosecco and vodka (£7.50)
- Carrot Iced Tea: with carrot, camomile tea, citrus and rum (£8)
- Old Fashioned: with black truffle and bourbon (£8.50)
You know that growling noise Homer Simpson does when he’s salivating over a doughnut? That’s what I’m doing over my keyboard now at the thought of a black truffle and bourbon Old Fashioned.
I must admit though, I’ll miss the silly names Cocktail Shack used to give their drinks. You could never go wrong with an “Obi Wan Negroni” or a “Lucy In The Sky With Dry Gin”. But hey, I’m looking forward to trying The Fix’s menu — especially if I can nab myself the table by the window with the amazing sea view.
(Please note, the above picture is of the open kitchen at The Set restaurant, not The Fix cocktail bar. I’ll upload new pics when they arrive)
